Michael Chavis To Play Both First And Second Base
5 years agoBoston Red Sox manager Ron Roenicke said that infielder Michael Chavis will play both first and second base this year, splitting time with Mitch Moreland at first and Jose Peraza at second. Chavis had his ups and downs in his rookie season in 2019, most notably against left-handed pitching. Roenicke thinks Chavis can improve in that area if he improves his plate discipline. Chavis should play more over Peraza at second base, with Moreland playing against most right-handed pitchers. The 24-year-old hit .254 with 18 home runs and 58 RBI in 347 at-bats for Boston last season. He won't run much and probably won't hit for a very high average, but the power upside in a potent Red Sox lineup will make him a top-25 fantasy second baseman.
