Mets Shopping Jed Lowrie, Dominic Smith
5 years agoThe New York Mets have discussed with teams the concept of taking second baseman Jed Lowrie and first baseman/outfielder Dominic Smith as part of a joint package in a trade. Lowrie is injury-prone and will make $10 million in 2020, while Smith doesn't have a clear path to regular playing time and is out of minor league options. Lowrie, 36 in April, played in just nine games in his first season in the Big Apple. If traded, he won't be guaranteed an every-day role in 2020. Smith, 24, hit a nice .282/.355/.525 in 2019, but he received just 177 at-bats while being blocked by Peter Alonso at first base. A change of scenery could definitely make Smith fantasy relevant in mixed leagues.
