Mets Not Planning to Move Clay Holmes to the Bullpen
Clay Holmes can blow past a reasonable innings expectation and remain effective into October as a starting pitcher, according to The Athletic's Tim Britton. If the playoffs were to start tomorrow, Britton writes that Holmes would be part of the rotation, although it might be in a piggyback situation with Frankie Montas. However, Holmes' innings jump is going to be considerably bigger than Luis Severino's and Sean Manaea's were last year, and they both hit a wall in the NLCS a year ago. If Holmes does eventually hit a wall, the Mets will then seriously consider moving Holmes to a relief role. Another option is the Mets trying to control Holmes' innings at some point in the second half, whether it's with shorter starts or a move to the bullpen. Fantasy managers will have to act accordingly if Holmes hits a wall.
