The New York Mets are looking into Japanese pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano. "Watch the Mets on this. I think they have as good a chance as anyone," an outside executive said. Sugano is a long-time ace of the Yomiuri Giants and has twice won Japan's equivalent of MLB's Cy Young. Some evaluators see him as a top-of-the-rotation arm in the majors, while others view him as a quality mid-rotation piece. It's unknown who the favorites are to land him, but Sugano's destination should be known within two weeks. Big-market teams have an advantage in landing the right-hander because he's used to playing for the Yankees of Japan. Sugano had a back injury in 2019 but went 14-2 with a 1.97 ERA in 2020, throwing 137 1/3 regular season innings. The 31-year-old may not have big upside because of his age, but he could still be a very serviceable top-of-the-rotation-arm for fantasy managers in 2021.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerRead More News
