Matt Ryan Unlikely To Play Again This Year
2 years agoThe Athletic's Zak Keefer writes that it's unlikely Indianapolis Colts quarterback Matt Ryan will play again this year after being benched for Nick Foles in Week 16 for the Monday night matchup versus the Los Angeles Chargers. Ryan has gone from the team's unquestioned starter, to being benched, then back to being the starter, and now he's third on the QB depth chart behind Foles and Sam Ehlinger. If the Colts choose to release him after the year, he'll count $18 million against the salary cap in 2023. If Ryan stays, he'll count $35 million against the cap. The 37-year-old and the Colts blew a 33-point lead in Week 15 to the Minnesota Vikings, eliminating them from playoff contention. It hasn't been all Ryan's fault in 2022, but he struggled mightily with a 67 percent completion rate, 3,057 yards, 14 touchdowns and a league-high 13 interceptions in 12 starts.
