Matt Olson Could Rebound In 2021
4 years agoOakland Athletics first baseman Matt Olson hit 14 home runs while playing in all 60 games in 2020, but his wOBA fell to .311 while his batting average sat at .195. Olson struck out a career-high 31.4 percent of the time last year, compared to a career rate closer to 25.0 percent in his first four seasons. But the left-handed slugger also walked at a career-high 13.9 percent clip in 2020, and he had a 92.3 mph average exit velocity, which was a top-20 mark in baseball. The 26-year-old is in the prime of his career and should be able to drop that strikeout rate and raise his batting average considerably in 2021. He also had a .227 BABIP a season ago, with his pre-2020 figure sitting at .285 in that department. Olson has elite power and might come at a nice discount as a fringe top-10 fantasy first baseman.
