The Miami Marlins are hiring Rachel Balkovec as their new director of player development, according to sources. She comes over from the New York Yankees, where she spent the last two years as a manager in the minor leagues at Single-A Tampa, the first female to do so. The Marlins are in the midst of a front-office overhaul after they let Kim Ng walk following the 2023 season, but they will bring another woman in to lead their player-development team. The 36-year-old was also the first woman in the sport to serve as a full-time hitting coach in an MLB organization for the Yankees' Florida Complex League team, and she also worked as a full-time strength and conditioning coach in affiliated baseball.
