Manny Machado Plans To Opt Out Of Contract
2 years agoSan Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado publicly confirmed that he's told the team that he plans to opt out of his contract. He declined to get into negotiations on a potential long-term extension with the team, but he did say that he'd still like to play for the organization as long as new teammate Nelson Cruz has. Machado has a 10-year, $300 million contract that runs through the 2028 season, but he has an opt-out clause after the 2023 season and plans to use it. The Padres could easily figure out a lucrative long-term extension to keep the 30-year-old in town, but how much money do they actually have left available to them? Machado is one of the best hitters in the game in one of the best lineups in the game. He is ranked as the No. 15 overall fantasy player by RotoBaller for the 2023 season, so he won't last long in fantasy drafts.
