Luis Rengifo 2023 Player Outlook: Might Not Start Regularly Despite Solid 2022
2 years agoLos Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo had a solid fantasy season for the American League West club last year, hitting .264 with a .294 on-base percentage, 17 home runs, and six stolen bases in 511 plate appearances. The home runs, stolen bases, and plate appearances all represented career highs for Rengifo, who also finished with a 103 wRC+ that was above league average. Though despite that, it remains to be seen what the 25-year-old's role will be with the Angels in 2023. Rengifo saw significant time at second base, third base, and shortstop with a handful of appearances in the outfield last season. His best pathway to a regular role for Los Angeles might be in a super-utility role, what with new additions Brandon Drury and Gio Urshela and the returning Anthony Rendon factoring into the infield mix. If Rengifo can play on a regular basis he could have some fantasy appeal in slightly deeper leagues, but Los Angeles's sudden abundance of options at the positions he plays makes his playing time difficult to forecast.
