Luis Gil Makes a Rehab Start
Luis Gil (lat) started on Wednesday for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. He went 3 1/3 innings while giving up four earned runs on four hits and issuing three walks in 67 pitches. He did have four strikeouts, but continues to refine his control. Before the outing, manager Aaron Boone said the team had not decided if this would be Gil's final rehab outing, but that decision should come in the next few days. He hasn't been dominant in his work in the minors, but the 27-year-old righty is nearing his season debut, which should be a boost for the Yankees' rotation. Last year, Gil earned the AL Rookie of the Year Award by going 15-7 in 29 games with a 3.50 ERA, 4.14 FIP, and 10.15 K/9. The Yankees will hope he returns to that form for their playoff chase in the coming weeks.
