Logan O'Hoppe Called Up To Make MLB Debut Wednesday
2 years agoThe Los Angeles Angels are calling up catching prospect Logan O'Hoppe on Wednesday, and he will make his major-league debut against the Oakland Athletics. In a corresponding move, outfielder Magneuris Sierra is being designated for assignment. O'Hoppe is the team's top prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and he was acquired from the Philadelphia Phillies last month in the trade that sent Brandon Marsh to Philly. The 22-year-old backstop hit a combined .283/.416/.544 with a .961 OPS, 26 home runs, 78 RBI, 72 runs scored and seven stolen bases in 104 combined games with Double-A Reading and Double-A Rocket City in the minors this year. With the Angels already eliminated from the postseason, don't be surprised if O'Hoppe sees most of the playing time for the Angels down the stretch over both Matt Thaiss and Max Stassi.
