Kyle Freeland Lit Up By Braves
6 years agoColorado Rockies ace Kyle Freeland was knocked around by Atlanta when they visited Coors on Monday night. Freeland gave up seven earned runs in five innings of work, walking four and striking out three. It started ugly as Freeland gave up a two-run bomb in the first inning, and the large number of runners hanging out on the bases spelled doom for Freeland when he gave up a bases-loaded single to Nick Markakis and a two-run triple to Dansby Swanson later in the game. Freeland is theoretically Colorado's ace after going 17-7 and getting Cy Young votes last year, but realistically his pitch-to-contact style led many to predict a fall from grace this season. A date with the light-hitting Giants in SF next week should give him a chance to right the ship.
