Jose Lobaton To Be Designated For Assignment
7 years agoNew York Mets catcher Jose Lobaton will be designated for assignment on Tuesday, the team announced. This is one of several roster moves the Mets announced on Monday, coinciding with the release of first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and the recalling of first baseman Dominic Smith and second baseman Ty Kelly. With Kevin Plawecki back from injury and in a platoon with Devin Mesoraco, it didn’t make much sense to hold onto Lobaton on the 40-man roster. Across 53 plate appearances for the Mets this season, the 33-year-old is slashing .152/.264/.239 without any home runs in 53 plate appearances. He’ll probably get a minor league deal if he wants one somewhere, perhaps with the Washington Nationals – with whom he’s spent the last five seasons.
