John Means Continues To Look Like An Ace
4 years agoBaltimore Orioles starting pitcher John Means has been pitching as well as any starter in the American League so far this season, and that continued on Sunday when the Orioles snapped the Oakland Athletics' 13-game winning streak in an 8-1 victory. Means tossed 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball against Oakland to lower his AL-best ERA to 1.50. The win also snapped Baltimore's eight-game losing streak to the A's, dating back to 2019. Of the 23 batters the southpaw faced, Means only allowed one ball in play (a homer to Ramon Laureano) with at least a 95 mph exit velocity. Means also fanned six and walked three in the outing. Through five starts in 2021, only Jacob deGrom (0.31), Corbin Burnes (0.37) and Joe Musgrove (1.04) have better ERAs than Means.
