Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson (lower body) will sit out for the first time this season Thursday against the Penguins. With Alex Ovechkin (lower body) also remaining on the shelf, the Capitals will be missing two of their biggest guns against their old foes. Carlson is once again among the top-scoring defenseman this season with 10 goals and 42 points in 49 outings. The 31-year-old is rated day-to-day, so he could be back in action in Saturday's rematch with the Penguins. Meanwhile, Justin Schultz (lower body) returns to action and will take over Carlson's spot on the top defensive pairing.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
