Joey Cantillo Called Up By Guardians
4 months agoThe Cleveland Guardians recalled left-handed pitching prospect Joey Cantillo from Triple-A Columbus on Monday, and he's expected to appear in Game 1 of the team's doubleheader against the division-rival Kansas City Royals at Progressive Field. Right-hander Nick Sandlin is getting the starting nod on the bump, but Cantillo, the team's No. 17 prospect per MLB Pipeline, could serve in a bulk-relief role. In Cantillo's first four big-league starts, he went 0-3 with an 8.47 ERA and 1.76 WHIP while striking out 14 and waking nine in 17 innings pitched. Fantasy managers would be wise to avoid the 24-year-old southpaw in his first major-league appearance since Aug. 21, especially with a tough matchup against the Royals on tap. Cantillo is expected to be sent back to Columbus after the team's twin bill on Monday.
