Javier Baez Scratched With Sprained Thumb
3 years agoChicago Cubs shortstop Javier Baez (thumb) has been scratched from the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Philadelphia Phillies with a sprained right thumb. It's unclear if this is an injury that could keep Baez out for an extended amount of time, but the Cubs will likely be careful with the All-Star break coming next week. For now, fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day until we know more. While he doesn't make enough consistent contact to carry a high average, Baez continues to give fantasy managers plenty of power (21 homers, 56 RBI) and speed (10 steals) in 77 games this year. Hopefully he won't be out for long. Sergio Alcantara is at the 6 and is batting eighth against Phillies right-hander Zack Wheeler. The switch-hitting Alcantara isn't a recommended DFS sleeper on Wednesday with just two home runs and a .183 average in 71 at-bats in 2021.
