Jason Castro Off To Strong Start Offensively
4 years agoLos Angeles Angels catcher Jason Castro is off to a strong start in summer camp with the bat, as he doubled on Tuesday and tripled off the wall on Friday. Castro is set to be the team's primary catcher in 2020. The 33-year-old former Stanford product is more of a defensive backstop, but he did hit 13 home runs in only 237 at-bats for the Twins last year and should see most of the at-bats behind the plate in Anaheim. His 13 long balls were nice, but Castro also hit only .232 in 2019 with a .767 OPS. Castro will provide a little pop and not much else as a viable second catcher in two-catcher formats.
