Jalen Hurd 2020 Outlook: Post-Injury Sleeper Could Be X-Factor In Niners Passing Game
5 years agoThe 49ers drafted Jalen Hurd in the third round last year out of Baylor with the idea that he would be an immediate contributor for their passing game. That never happened, however, as a back injury sidelined Hurd for his entire rookie season. But the 24-year-old has been cleared physically, and the Niners are hoping he can produce as a passing option behind Deebo Samuel and rookie first-rounder Brandon Aiyuk. The 6-foot-4, 227-pounder was a former running back in college as well, so he has plenty of run-after-the-catch ability and fits nicely in Kyle Shanahan's offense. San Francisco has depth in numbers at the position -- Kendrick Bourne, Dante Pettis, Richie James, Trent Taylor -- but Hurd has the most upside of the group if he shows he's past his injury issues this summer. Hurd could really pay off as a sleeper in the final rounds of deep league drafts.
