Jake Woodford Called Up To Start On Monday
3 years agoThe St. Louis Cardinals recalled right-hander Jake Woodford from Triple-A Memphis on Monday and optioned outfielder Lars Nootbaar to Memphis in a corresponding move. Woodford will make the start on Monday against the Chicago Cubs. The 24-year-old will be making just his second career big league start, with his other one coming last year. In 17 major league appearances this year in relief, Woodford has a 4.62 ERA, 6.57 FIP, 1.46 WHIP and 21/14 K/BB in 25 1/3 innings pitched. Because he's unlikely to go very deep in this ballgame, he should be avoided as a fantasy streamer to kick off the series against the division rivals. Woodford also has a weak 18.0 percent strikeout rate in the majors this season.
