Jairo Solis Undergoes Tommy John Surgery
3 years agoHouston Astros right-hander Jairo Solis (elbow), one of the team's best pitching prospects, underwent Tommy John surgery on Monday. Solis, who was added to the 40-man roster in the offseason, also had surgery in late April to remove loose bodies from his elbow. His second Tommy John surgery will end his season and likely keep him out for at least half of 2022. The Astros No. 8 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, has not pitched in the minor leagues since 2018 with Single-A Quad Cities because of his elbow issues, so this is a serious blow to his development. The 21-year-old creates a nice downhill plane on his pitches and only started to develop problems with his control and command when he injured his elbow. Solis has a nice four-pitch mix, but his development will now be pushed back for another full year.
