The Athletics announced on Tuesday that they placed rookie shortstop Jacob Wilson (hand) on the 10-day injured list with a bruised hand that he has been playing with in recent weeks. In a corresponding move, infielder Darell Hernaiz has been called up from Triple-A Las Vegas. Hopefully, Wilson won't have to miss much time before coming off the IL, but it could give him a nice little break after finally starting to struggle of late in his first full big-league season. The former sixth overall pick is still hitting above .300 on the season and is one of the toughest hitters to strike out, but he's gone just 7-for-50 (.140) with a homer and five RBI in 13 games in the month of July. Max Schumann got the start at the 6 for the A's on Monday with Wilson out and should be the team's primary option at the position until Wilson is able to return from the IL.--Keith Hernandez
