Hector Yan Becomes First Spring Cut For Angels
4 years agoThe Los Angeles Angels optioned left-handed pitching prospect Hector Yan on Thursday, marking their first roster cut of spring training. The 21-year-old allowed two runs on four hits while recording just two outs in his lone spring outing against Arizona on March 4, and his velocity was down to 91-92 mph, which was a few mph slower than during his breakout season in 2019 with Single-A Burlington. He spent last year at the alternate training site and will continue to work out with the rest of the players in spring camp despite being optioned. Ranked as the team's No. 10 prospect by MLB Pipeline, Yan features a unique delivery that can cause fits for opposing hitters. However, it can also get in the way of his command. Expect the Angels to tinker with his mechanics in the minors this year in order to get his velocity back to where it needs to be.
