Giants Claim Devin Sweet Off Waivers From A's
12 months agoThe San Francisco Giants claimed right-hander Devin Sweet off waivers from the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday. Sweet will operate as organizational relief for the Giants and remain in the Pacific Northwest after previously spending time with the A's and Seattle Mariners. The 27-year-old made his big-league debut this past season but appeared in only seven games out of the bullpen for Seattle and Oakland. In 8 2/3 innings, Sweet didn't exactly fare well, allowing 10 earned runs on 10 hits (four home runs given up) while walking six and striking out six. He was much better at Double-A Arkansas in Seattle's system in 2023, posting a 1.54 ERA and 0.91 WHI with five saves and 47 K's in 35 relief innings pitched. Expect Sweet to continue toiling in the minors to at least start the 2024 campaign.
