Gerrit Cole Gives Up Five Runs But Earns Win
Gerrit Cole wasn't at his best in his outing against the Boston Red Sox on Thursday. However, he did enough to earn his eighth win of the season. Cole pitched six innings and allowed five hits, three walks and five earned runs while striking out seven. Essentially all of the damage against Cole came off the bat of Rafael Devers, who hit two home runs against him and drove in all five runs Cole allowed. Cole now stands at 8-2 on the year with a 3.26 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP. He's slated to make one more start prior to the All-Star break and it will be next Wednesday against the Cincinnati Reds.
