Gabriel Moreno Set for CT Scan This Week
Gabriel Moreno (finger) will undergo another CT scan this week, per MLB.com. Moreno suffered a right-hand contusion on June 6 against the Cincinnati Reds and was later diagnosed with a hairline fracture in his right index finger. He originally went on the 10-day injured list on June 19 before being transferred to the 60-day IL on July 18. Barring a setback once he begins doing baseball activities, Moreno could return to the Diamondbacks in late August as their primary catcher. In the meantime, Jose Herrera and James McCann will continue to split time behind the dish in Arizona. The 25-year-old Moreno was hitting a strong .270/.324/.414 with a .738 OPS, five home runs, 20 RBI and 29 runs scored in 53 games before his injury. If he gets good news on his CT scan, he could resume baseball activities later this week.
