Franklin Barreto Will Fill Utility Role To Close 2020
Franklin Barreto was activated ahead of Wednesday’s contest against the Padres, with manager Joe Maddon indicating that he planned to use the 24-year-old “literally everywhere” over the team’s final 24 games. Barreto was acquired in the deal for Tommy La Stella, once having been thought of as the A’s long-term option at the keystone. With Andrelton Simmons and David Fletcher likely serving as the club’s up-the-middle tandem over the final month, Barreto will have to branch out if he’s to see consistent at-bats. Until the Angels begin to play him everyday, he can remain on the waiver wire in all season-long formats.
