The Arizona Diamondbacks selected Miami pitcher Slade Cecconi with the 33rd overall pick in the 2020 MLB draft on Wednesday. Cecconi, who wowed scouts with his size and live arm, was a 38th-round pick in 2018 out of high school. He's 6-foot-4 and has a durable frame that allows his fastball to get up to 96 mph. Cecconi, a right-hander, can get into trouble late in his starts when his velocity dips, though, especially if he leaves the ball up in the zone. His arm strength is his biggest asset, although there are some concerns as to whether he's a starter in the long run. Cecconi's fastball/slider combination is intriguing, but he'll need to develop his other secondary pitches if he wants to stick in the rotation in the minor leagues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerRead More News
