CJ Abrams Gains Some Weight
2 years agoWashington Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams' offseason work included speed work and swing and pitch recognition. He also gained six to seven pounds and now weighs 190 pounds heading into the 2023 season. Abrams said the added weight will help him with power while playing through his first full big-league season. The 22-year-old was acquired by the Nationals from the San Diego Padres in the blockbuster trade involving Juan Soto last August. The former top prospect hit .258 with no home runs, 10 RBI and six stolen bases in 44 games in D.C. after the trade. Abrams is still young and maturing, so fantasy managers would be wise not to expect much from his bat just yet, but the speed should be useful as a middle infielder. RotoBaller has him ranked as the No. 29 fantasy shortstop.
