4 years agoBoston Red Sox second baseman Christian Arroyo, who impressed the team at the end of last year, is out of minor league options and will receive a long look in spring training for the final roster spot. Arroyo has also seen time at third base, and manager Alex Cora mentioned that he can play some shortstop as well. Defensive versatility will be a big factor as he tries to win a roster spot heading into spring training. Infielder Michael Chavis is competing with Arroyo for the final bench spot. Chavis, once the team's top prospect, does have minor league options remaining, so that could be the deciding factor. Chavis had his moments last year with Boston, but he'll need to be more consistent at the plate and cut down on his strikeouts to win the spot over the 25-year-old Arroyo.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
