Chet Holmgren To Miss The 2022-23 Season

Oklahoma City Thunder center Chet Holmgren (foot) will not play this season. The No. 2 overall pick injured his foot attempting to block a dunk by LeBron James during a Seattle Pro-Am contest. There was optimism that he would be good to go for his inaugural year. However, further testing revealed a Lisfranc injury, so Holmgren will have surgery in the next few weeks. The 20-year-old was highly-touted coming out of college, finishing his only season at Gonzaga by averaging 14.1 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 3.7 blocks while shooting 39.0% from deep. His slender frame has been a topic of discussion throughout the offseason. Yet, with the upcoming layoff, he has a chance to add much-needed mass, which may help keep him healthy for years to come. Nevertheless, the show must go on in OKC without Holmgren in the lineup, so guys like Jeremiah Robinson-Earl and Aleksej Pokusevski should begin to see more interest in drafts ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.
