4 years agoThe Pittsburgh Pirates placed right-hander Chad Kuhl (shoulder) on the injured list on Thursday with right shoulder discomfort. Right-handed reliever Geoff Hartlieb was recalled from the alternate site. The Pirates also recalled corner infielder Todd Frazier from the alternate site and designated outfielder Dustin Fowler for assignment. Manager Derek Shelton pointed to Luis Oviedo, Sean Poppen and Duane Underwood Jr. as options to provide length in a potential bullpen game this Sunday against the Minnesota Twins, which was Kuhl's next scheduled start. Fowler hit just .171/.239/.195 in 18 games while sharing time in center field with Anthony Alford, who was DFA'd on Wednesday. In the short term, Bryan Reynolds will shift to center field. Ka'ai Tom, who was claimed off waivers on Wednesday from the Oakland Athletics, will have a great chance to claim the starting center field job.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
