Cedric Mullins 2022 Player Outlook: Last Season's Breakout Campaign Was No Fluke
3 years agoBaltimore Orioles outfielder Cedric Mullins broke out and was one of the biggest surprises in fantasy baseball by becoming the first player in Orioles history to hit 30 homers and steal 30 bases. The 27-year-old slashed .291/.360/.518 with 30 home runs, 59 RBI, 91 runs scored, and 30 stolen bases over 674 plate appearances. Mullins was a switch hitter before the start of the season and attributed his success by primarily batting left-handed (his natural side) last season. His Statcast data shows he's closer to a .260 hitter as opposed to the .291 batting overall batting average he posted last year. Mullins' BAIP dipped from .320 in the first half to a more sustainable .290 in the second half. Coming off a 30-30 campaign, fantasy managers should expect a 25/30 season with a .270 batting average and a .330 WOBA. Steamer is projecting a .259/.327/.445 slash line with 25 homers and a 108 wRC+ in 2022. According to RotoBaller's Expected Draft Values, Steamer's projections would have Mullins roughly fair value at his current NFBC ADP of 25. The Orioles breakout star should provide fantasy managers power and speed, making him a solid selection within the first three rounds of 2022 fantasy drafts.
