Carlos Gomez Progressing Towards Return
7 years agoTampa Bay Rays outfielder Carlos Gomez (groin) has progressed toward his return from a groin injury. He is playing catch and Tuesday is planning to increase his baseball activities. The hope is that he can return either Saturday (when he is eligible) or soon after. Gomez was a superstar back in 2013 and 2014. In those two seasons, he combined for 47 home runs and 74 steals with a .284 average in both seasons. He has since struggled and has not played more than 118 games in any of the past three seasons while playing for three teams. Gomez still has some upside to become relevant, as he was on pace for 20 home runs and 12 steals before the injury, but he needs to raise his .200 batting average. Also, you will need to keep an eye on how he runs when he comes back since steals are part of his appeal.
