Can Yankees Retain DJ LeMahieu?
4 years agoThe New York Yankees will likely make a strong effort to re-sign infielder DJ LeMahieu and they already extended him a one-year, $18.9 million qualifying offer, but MLB Trade Rumors predicts that he'll leave for the division-rival Blue Jays. The 32-year-old won the MLB batting crown in 2020 by hitting .364 with 10 home runs and an American League-leading .421 on-base percentage and 1.011 OPS. If the Yankees are unable to bring LeMahieu back, they could move Gleyber Torres back to the keystone after he struggled defensively at shortstop. He'll cost a pretty penny as a rare complete hitter that teams do not shift against; he hasn't seen a real infield shift in over four years. LeMahieu's best free-agent fits include the Yankees, Mets, Rockies, Dodgers and Cardinals.
