Buster Posey Remains Giants Primary Catcher
4 years agoSan Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey will remain the team's "primary catcher" in 2021 and will receive "the lion's share of the reps" behind the dish despite the presence of top prospect Joey Bart, according to manager Gabe Kapler. The six-time All-Star is owed $21.4 million in what could be the last year of his contract after he sat out in 2020 over concerns about COVID-19. Bart hit .233/.288/.320 in 111 plate appearances for San Fran last season. Posey had hip surgery in 2019 and batted .257/.320/.368 with seven homers and 24 doubles in 114 games. The 33-year-old averaged a .308 batting average, 16 homers and 31 doubles in 141 games a year the prior seven seasons. Kapler said that Posey added some muscle this year and looks great. While Posey is no longer in his prime, he should be well-rested and much cheaper in fantasy drafts for 2021. As long as he can stay healthy over the full season, he could be a steal.
