Brendan Rodgers Serves As DH Thursday
5 years agoColorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers (shoulder) made his Cactus League debut on Thursday as the designated hitter and went 2-for-3. Rodgers, who had shoulder surgery last July, is hoping to be able to play the field next week. Initially projected to be out until May, Rodgers has been healing quickly. However, Hampson must produce when healthy to see playing time over Ryan McMahon and Garrett Hampson at the keystone. He slashed .224/.272/.250 with no home runs, seven RBI and 27 strikeouts in 76 at-bats in the majors last year after getting called up on June 23. Rodgers may have the most fantasy upside of any of Colorado's options at second base, though, so he's worth a late-round flier in deep mixed leagues, especially if his timeline is moved up.
