Brandon Pfaadt Could Earn Big-League Call-Up
2 years agoThe Arizona Diamondbacks have no plans to go to a four-man starting rotation, according to manager Torey Lovullo, so there's a chance that pitching prospect Brandon Pfaadt is called up from the minors to take Drey Jameson's rotation spot after he was sent to Triple-A Reno on Monday. If the 24-year-old Pfaadt is called up, he could be in line to make his major-league debut sometime this weekend for Arizona. The club's No. 3 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, has gone 1-1 with a 3.54 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, four walks and 25 strikeouts in 20 1/3 frames in his first four starts for Reno in 2023. Pfaadt is mostly a fastball-slider pitcher and gets a lot of swings and misses on his sweeper. He's also around the zone frequently. It remains to be seen if he'll have a chance to stick in the rotation in the short term, but Pfaadt has lots of long-term upside.
