Blake Snell Fans Eight, Takes Loss in Return From Injured List
Blake Snell (shoulder) made his long-awaited return from the injured list Saturday after missing four months with shoulder inflammation. Facing the Tampa Bay Rays, one of his former teams, Snell tossed five innings of five-hit, three-run ball with eight strikeouts and no walks on 86 pitches (57 strikes). Snell surrendered two home runs to Yandy Diaz, but he was otherwise sharp in a 4-0 loss. While Snell fell to 1-1 on the year in his third start and first since April 2, his strikeout total, command, average fastball velocity (95 mph), and 19 whiffs were all encouraging signs. The Dodgers are easing the 32-year-old back in as part of a six-man rotation. He's scheduled to toe the rubber again next Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays.
