Andrew Chafin Earns One-Out Save On Saturday
5 months agoDetroit Tigers relief pitcher Andrew Chafin tallied his first save of the season on Saturday by recording the final out. Jason Foley was given the ball in the final frame with a three-run lead but allowed a lead-off solo shot to Spencer Steer and then a two-out single to Noelvi Marte. With the potential tying runner at the plate, Detroit manager A.J. Hinch brought out southpaw Andrew Chafin to record the final out. He sealed the victory by striking out the lone batter, Santiago Espinal. Through 28 innings this season, the 34-year-old has posted a mediocre 3.86 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, and a 12:36 BB:K ratio. While Jason Foley should continue to see the majority of save opportunities in the Motor City, Chafin could become a name to keep a close eye on in deeper leagues, as he could begin to earn more save opportunities in the second half of the summer if Foley continues to struggle.
