Alec Bohm An Option To Play First Base?
3 years agoWith Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins (abdominal) set to undergo season-ending surgery for a lower abdominal tear, the Phillies have a void at first base. Brad Miller, who entered Thursday in a 5-for-36 slump, received the first crack at the position. Alec Bohm, who was recently optioned to Triple-A, could become an option, but general manager Sam Fuld is pumping the brakes on that. Fuld said the team doesn't have immediate plans to have Bohm play first base in the minors, so it's unlikely that he'll be called up to replace Hoskins at the cold corner to close out the season. Bohm finished second in National League Rookie of the Year voting last year, but he's hit just .245/.302/.342 and has struggled on defense in 2021. The 25-year-old should be back up for the stretch run, and hopefully he can end the year on a high note.
