1 year agoTexas Rangers outfielder Adolis Garcia (oblique) isn't starting in Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, but he'll be available off the bench after working out. Travis Jankowski will make the start in right field and will bat ninth against Diamondbacks left-handed opener Joe Mantiply. According to RangersToday.com's Jeff Wilson, Garcia suffered a moderate left-oblique strain in his final at-bat in Game 3 on Monday night. There's a chance the 30-year-old slugger could miss the remainder of the World Series, which would be a huge blow to the Rangers' offense the rest of the way, as Garcia has eight home runs and 22 RBI this postseason and was named the ALCS MVP. Jankowski hit .263 (65-for-247) during the year with only one home run but with 19 steals. He has a hit in two at-bats in five playoff games and has not faced Mantiply in his career.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

3 weeks agoTexas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said that outfielder Adolis Garcia (oblique) will get at-bats on the back fields at camp on Tuesday, and if all goes well, he will serve as the designated hitter in a Cactus League game by Thursday against the San Francisco Giants. The 32-year-old veteran is recovering from a Grade 1 left-oblique strain, but as long as he doesn't suffer a setback when he returns to game action, he'll have enough time to get ready for Opening Day in several weeks. The Cuban outfielder had the worst season of his career in 2024, but that consisted of a .224/.284/.400 slash line, .684 OPS, 25 home runs, 85 RBI, 11 stolen bases and 68 runs scored in 154 games played. Regaining his plate discipline and staying healthy will be key, but Garcia hits the ball hard enough and is in a good enough lineup for a bounce-back as a No. 3/4 fantasy outfielder.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

4 weeks agoTexas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said that outfielder Adolis Garcia's oblique strain is "pretty mild" and "not quite Grade 1" strain. The Rangers expect Garcia to be back quicker than fellow outfielder Wyatt Langford (oblique), who has also been delayed early in spring training with an oblique injury. More than likely, Garcia will be ready for Opening Day later this month. Fantasy managers that already drafted Garcia can breathe a sigh of relief that he's not expected to open the season on the injured list. The 32-year-old Cuban slugger took a step back from his All-Star campaign in 2023, but he still managed 25 home runs, 85 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 154 games played in his fifth year in Texas. When looking at Garcia's hard-hit and barrel rates from 2024, nothing concerning jumps out, so there's a good chance he can return to the 30-homer mark if he stays healthy in 2025.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

4 weeks agoTexas Rangers outfielder Adolis Garcia (oblique) was scratched from Tuesday's Cactus League game after complaining of a left-oblique issue, and he will head for an MRI exam. It could just be a minor oblique issue, but even if it is, it could put Garcia's availability for Opening Day later this month in question. The 32-year-old Cuban outfielder had 25 home runs and 85 RBI in 154 games for Texas last year, but it was a notable drop in production after he hit .245/.328/.508 with a career-best .836 OPS, 39 home runs and 107 RBI in 2023 on his way to leading the Rangers to their first-ever World Series title. Garcia still hit the ball hard often last year, which gives him a pretty solid floor as a No. 3 fantasy outfielder with pop, but his oblique issue will have fantasy managers a bit hesitant to pull the trigger on him. Stay tuned for news on the severity of Garcia's injury.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

1 month agoAfter a disappointing 2024 campaign, Texas Rangers outfielder Adolis Garcia revamped his swing and is gunning for 50 home runs and 100 RBI in 2025. Even during a down year, Garcia had 25 home runs, 85 RBI and 11 stolen bases, but his .224 average and .684 OPS were career-lows. The 31-year-old has worked to remove an early loop at the top of his swing to give him a "quieter" swing, according to manager Bruce Bochy. "Not a lot of movement. Not a lot of length -- with his stride or with the swing itself." He's more focused now on making loud contact, as opposed to trying to lift the ball. A knee injury bothered Garcia throughout last season, which may have impacted his results at the plate. The good news is that Garcia appears to be healthy this spring and is moving around much better. Better health will go a long way for him in 2025, and Garcia's floor is pretty high after averaging 31 homers in his four full seasons in Texas.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
