49ers Release Jordan Matthews
4 years agoThe San Francisco 49ers released wide receiver Jordan Matthews from the practice squad on Tuesday. Matthews never made it to San Francisco's active roster this year despite all of their injuries to key skill players. He played in just three games in 2019 -- two with the Eagles and one with the Niners -- catching four passes on 12 targets for 33 yards. Matthews' best three seasons came in his first three NFL seasons with the Eagles from 2014-2016 after he was a second-round pick out of Vanderbilt. The 28-year-old might latch on with another team's practice squad, but he's unlikely to get a shot on an active roster with just four weeks remaining in the regular season. Matthews' best season was in 2015 when he caught 85 passes for 997 yards and eight touchdowns.
