ANALYSIS: If you're looking for a potential starting pitching jolt off the waiver wire, then keep reading. St. Louis Cardinals pitching prospect Matthew Liberatore has been recalled to start on Wednesday against the Milwaukee Brewers, and is one of the top pitching prospects in the minors.
Liberatore struggled in his first taste of the majors in 2022, but has been rock solid for Triple-A Memphis this season with a 3.13 ERA and 56 strikeouts over his first 46 innings. His only blemish has been giving up too many walks and he will need to correct that to reach his full potential. Despite the walks, the lefty should be expected to remain part of a struggling Cardinals rotation for now.
Liberatore is worthy of a speculative waiver wire add in most formats, and could be an impact pitcher immediately. He may face some rookie bumps and struggles along the way, but he certainly has the upside and pedigree to be a major fantasy baseball contributor. Go get him if he's still available on waivers.
