ANALYSIS: Wilson is still recovering from having surgery for the torn meniscus he suffered back in May. Coach Kyle Shanahan recently noted that he expects Wilson to return this season, saying "It's not in the next couple weeks, but kind of beyond that. He's doing really well. Had some real positive breakthroughs in his recovery." Despite losing top back Raheem Mostert for the season, the 49ers have remained a run-heavy team as they're averaging the 10-most rushing attempts per game (28 attempts). Sixth-round rookie Elijah Mitchell has seemingly taken over the backfield for the time being, rushing 18 times for 107 yards and a touchdown in Week 7. He had 28 carries for just 85 yards (3.0 yards per carry) and no scores in the two games prior.
We've seen Shanahan pull the "hot hand" card before, and we've certainly witnessed the coach deploying Wilson as the lead back in this offense. He averaged a healthy 4.8 yards per carry last year and totaled 10 touchdowns despite receiving just three starts. He put up 204 total yards on 23 touches in one of those starts. If you have an IR spot open or want to stash a high-upside back in a rush-heavy offense, Wilson is your guy. He'll most likely be returning to action right as the playoff push becomes real in fantasy football - around Week 12 or 13.
