ANALYSIS: San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell suffered a knee injury on Sunday and is expected to miss two months. With how much the 49ers run, this presents a pretty big opening for snaps for someone.
Who will that someone be? Probably Jeff Wilson Jr.
The former North Texas product is in his fifth season with San Fran, with his best season coming in 2020, when he had 126 carries for 600 yards and seven touchdowns while also catching 13 passes for 133 yards and three scores.
On Sunday, Wilson carried the ball nine times, finishing with 22 yards. He also had two receptions for right yards. The lack of production is a bit misleading, as that game was played in horrendous weather conditions.
The important thing when it comes to fantasy is that Wilson had a 76% snap rate after Mitchell exited. The 49ers turned to him to be the lead back.
Now, the fact that both Deebo Samuel and Trey Lance will have designed runs called for them lowers Wilson's upside, but he can be a solid RB3/flex play for fantasy managers with Mitchell out.
