ANALYSIS: The Texans added two wide receivers on Day 2 of the NFL Draft with Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel. Noel was taken slightly after Higgins in the third round of the draft with the 79th overall pick.
Noel spent all four seasons of his collegiate career with Iowa State. During his final campaign in 2024, Noel took a significant step forward, eclipsing the century mark for the first time, tallying 1,194 yards on 80 receptions and eight touchdowns. All of these marks were career-highs.
While the 22-year-old flashed upside during his senior season, he will face some stiff competition to carve out a role in his debut NFL season. In the offseason, the Texans added veteran Christian Kirk to the wide receiver room. Kirk has consistently been deployed with the first team and is likely viewed as the No. 2 option aligned alongside superstar Nico Collins.
As a result, Noel will have to compete alongside fellow rookie Higgins for consistent targets in the offense.
While Noel could eventually claim the No. 3 job over Higgins, for now, fantasy managers should opt to keep him on their bench as he possesses a very low floor in his Week 1 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. While he could produce given the potential for a high-scoring affair, he carries high risk, given that he appears to be viewed as a rotational piece.
