Will Jaylen Wright play in Week 2 for fantasy football? Is Jaylen Wright injured or hurt heading into Week 2 of 2025? Read the latest Jaylen Wright injury report.
The Miami Dolphins' offense was a major disappointment in Week 1, and they managed to score just eight points in their road loss to the Colts. While many factors played a role in their underwhelming performances, they were at less than full strength since running back Jaylen Wright was ruled out for the game with a knee injury.
Wright was expected to be part of the team's backfield mix this season after Raheem Mostert left to join the Raiders, Alexander Mattison joined as a free agent, and Ollie Gordon II was selected in the NFL Draft. Wright put on muscle and was angling to be the power back to complement De'Von Achane's dynamic, speed-based game. Like everything for the Dolphins this season, the situation hasn't gone according to plan, with Mattison lost for the season and Wright also ailing.
So what's Wright's status for Week 2, and will he play? Read the latest Wright injury news and fantasy outlook below.

Jaylen Wright Fantasy Football Injury Update
Wright was expected to be the primary backup behind Achane this season, especially after Mattison's injury, but he was unable to play the final preseason game due to a knee injury. Coach Mike McDaniel said Wright was "week-to-week," and he was spotted on the sideline at the end of preseason with a compression sleeve on his leg. Ultimately, he underwent surgery and was expected to be able to return in September.
On Thursday, Wright did get back to practice for the first time since going down on August 21. While it does look like the speedy second-year back is getting closer to a return, it doesn't look like he'll be able to get back in action this week.
Waddle expected to play Sunday... Jaylen Wright likely won't play but not 100 percent certain, per McDaniel... Jackson, Waller out Sunday and Benito Jones out Sunday as well

Is Jaylen Wright Playing in Week 2?
McDaniel's assessment was backed up by the team's official injury report that listed Wright as doubtful for this week's game against the Patriots. The doubtful designation indicates he still has a chance to play, but will most likely be ruled out. He could be back in Week 3, when they visit the Bills on a short week for Thursday Night Football.
With Wright unlikely to play, Gordon is set to be the team's primary backup running back behind Achane for a second straight week. In Week 1, Gordon played 15 snaps (25%) and managed just four yards on two carries and one catch for negative one yard. He impressed in the preseason, but didn't look ready to contribute when given limited chances in Week 1.
If Wright misses the game as expected, Gordon could get more work against the Patriots if the game stays closer and the Dolphins don't have to rely on the passing game so heavily. The rookie still has a ton of upside, but he hasn't exactly taken off in Wright's absence just yet.
Jaylen Wright Fantasy Football Outlook for Week 2
Wright's fantasy outlook for Week 2 is mostly nonexistent since he probably needs one more week of recovery time before getting back on the field. However, if you can stash him on IR or afford to leave him on your bench, he did show some intriguing sizzle and speed coming into last season. Long-term, his outlook still has some positive upside to it if he comes back in Week 3 and serves as the change-of-pace option in a rotation with Achane.
Wright finished last year with 68 carries for 249 scoreless rushing yards and added three catches. He was buried on the depth chart behind Mostert, Achane, and Jeff Wilson Jr. (who is now on Miami's practice squad), but this year, he should have a much clearer path to playing time when healthy.
If the Dolphins' offense can get things turned around, Wright could have fantasy value later in the year, but he won't be worth playing in Week 2 even if he does end up surprisingly making his return. If he plays Week 3, he'll also be unlikely to be a strong play in that contest, but once he ramps up, he does have some fantasy football potential..
