Is Joe Mixon Out for the 2025 Season?
While Mixon has not been ruled out of the remainder of the season, he is trending in that direction. Last week, Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 reported that Mixon is still not ready to return to practice, despite being eligible to return. In fact, his sources noted that it will be "much longer" until Mixon can be cleared for action.
Given this update, managers should not expect to return to this season. Although the team has not made it official, given his lack of participation in practices, he is trending in the wrong direction and is fighting an uphill battle to return this season.
#Texans coach DeMeco Ryans specifically indicated that Joe Mixon is not ready to return at this time. Per sources, it will be much longer, if at all, for Mixon to get back on the field this season @KPRC2

Joe Mixon 2025 Fantasy Football Outlook
As a result, managers in any format without IR spots should not consider stashing Mixon. Without any firm timetable, he carries minimal fantasy value and should not be stashed in any format. While managers in leagues that have IR spots could still hold Mixon, they should look to pivot to other "IR" eligible players such as Christin Watson (knee) or Jalen Coker (quadriceps), who have a more defined timeline.
In addition, the Texans have begun to provide more opportunities for rookie Woody Marks, suggesting that they are beginning to turn the page on the Mixon era. In Week 4, Marks enjoyed a breakout showing as he ran for 69 yards and scored on 17 carries and added a score through the air.
While he took a step back in their Week 5 victory over the Ravens this past weekend, his increased usage suggests the team is preparing to remain without Mixon for the rest of the season.
Fantasy managers should only view Mixon as a low-priority stash in deeper 14+ team leagues that have IR spots.
