Emeka Egbuka Injury Report: Will Egbuka Play in Week 3 for Fantasy Football?

Emeka Egbuka - Fantasy Football Rankings, Rookie Rankings, WR Sleepers

Will Emeka Egbuka play in Week 3 for fantasy football? Is Emeka Egbuka injured or hurt heading into Week 3 of 2025? Read the latest Emeka Egbuka injury report.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Emeka Egbuka (hip/groin) has had a very nice start to his NFL career. Through two games, he's caught eight of his 13 targets for 96 yards and three touchdowns.

Though his yardage numbers aren't too impressive, his three scores have propelled him to be the WR15 in PPR fantasy points so far, and he's tied to one of the league's better passing offenses.

Unfortunately, no player is immune to injury issues, and Egbuka is currently dealing with some aliments of his own. So will he play in Week 3? And what's his fantasy football outlook?

Emeka Egbuka Fantasy Football Injury Update

Egbuka is dealing with both hip and groin injuries. The rookie missed two straight days of practice on Wednesday and Thursday, but was able to participate in a limited fashion on Friday. This bodes well for his long-term outlook. He's not set to miss significant time.

Egbuka was tended to on the sidelines in his Week 2 contest, at one point having part of his leg wrapped up, but he didn't seem to miss any playing time. He played exactly 93 percent of his team's snaps in both Week 1 and Week 2, so the injury wasn't bad enough to knock him out of actual playing time.

Is Emeka Egbuka Playing in Week 3?

It's been reported that he's expected to play. We don't know exactly what his injuries are, but they seem to be minor, for the time being. It's possible he has his reps capped, or aggravates the injury while playing, but that's not something that's easy to predict without prior knowledge.

He's officially listed as "questionable" on the team's injury report, but ESPN's Jeremy Fowler recently reported that he's likely to take the field anyway.

So you probably shouldn't worry about him missing any time.

Emeka Egbuka Fantasy Football Outlook for Week 3

Egbuka's touchdown rate is obviously not sustainable, unless he's set to break the NFL record for receiving touchdowns in a season, 23, set by Hall of Fame wideout Randy Moss in 2007. But he has been on a hot streak so far, and the red zone opportunities are there for him.

His target share, route win rates, separation metrics, and yardage numbers do not suggest that he'll have an elite season. It's not as if you should remove him from your starting lineups, as that's likely to become an issue only when WR Chris Godwin (ankle) returns to dilute Bucs' pass-catcher target distributions.

But the idea that he's an elite WR1 moving forward is not only incredibly premature, but not backed up by the data. There are countless receivers who have had hot touchdown streaks only to go on to have tons of poor games the rest of the season. Egbuka is somewhat insulated against terrible contests, being with the Bucs.

He had just 29 receiving yards in Week 2, and has thus far failed to have a high rate of targets per route run through two contests. With all that playing time, you'd think their first round pick would get more work. He's had an elite touchdown rate, but that isn't sticky -- i.e., it doesn't make sense to project him averaging 1.5 TDs per game for the rest of the season based on these two weeks.

He's still a fine flex player to start for Week 3, assuming he doesn't have a limited workload due to his injury. But later in the season, things could get tricker, and Egbuka could cede the WR2 job back to a mostly-healthy Godwin.
